Gandaki Higher Secondary Boarding School formerly known as Nepal Adarsha Bidhalaya was established on 11th June 1966 as a result of the initiation of three groups: 

i. The United Mission to Nepal. ii. The Shining Hospital and iii. The Local Community. Initially the facilities were primitive with all the thatched-roofed buildings mud and bamboo. There were only 45 boarding students, who were catered for by 5 teaching staff. It was designated as a co-educational regional school in 1985 with English as the medium of instruction in an agreement between Nepal government and the United Mission to Nepal.
The First batch of 10+2 students was enrolled in 1992.Prior to the commencement of 10+2 education; students were prepared for O level study for a number of years.

loctionThe school is situated on the outskirts of Pokhara, a breath-taking city gifted with seven beautiful lakes, towering crystal clear, snow-clad mountains, adventurous caves and many other fascinating sights. It lies merely 5 Km north of the heart of the city spreading widely on 13.5 hectares (270 ropanies). It is linked with the main city by a fine, tarred motorable road with a regular public bus and taxi service. The world renowned snow fed Fishtail Mountain that towers the school premises offers its inhabitants a panoramic view with its gorgeous outlook. Surrounded by green hills and hillocks on threesides, perched on the western bank of the perennial riverside and freed from the din and the pollution of the sprawling city. Pokhara, the school offers a tranquil and conducive study environment.




SOS- Kinderdorf International has established SOS Hermann Gmeiner Schools in various countries as projects which complement the SOS Children's Village.
This school has the privilege and honor of having the personal attention of the President of SOS KDI, Hon. Helmut Kutin, since the inception in 1987.His regular visits in monitoring the progress and expansion of the school from Kindergarten to Grade 12 have made it possible to see this school with a difference. This is the only higher secondary school in the valley providing Nepali, Tibetan and English as the medium of instruction and the only SOS Hermann Gmeiner School in the country with a special hostel facility.
Background
Initially the focus of this school was to provide an all round education to the children of the SOS Children's Village Pokhara and the Tibetan Refugee Community whereby they could follow the National Curriculum and also learn Tibetan Language, Literature, history and culture. The School was formally inaugurated
on June 6, 1987 by the Chairperson of SOS Children’s Village Nepal in the presence of the President of SOS KDI, Hon. Helmut Kutin. Mr.R.K Sharma convened as the National Director of SOS CV Nepal and Mr. Tsering Thondup as the first Principal for the School.
Over the years, this school has provided educational opportunities to the children of the neighboring Nepali Community as well as students from the feeder schools of the Tibetan Community from the remote regions of North Western Nepal.

The school is situated at two separate places in Pokhara (a tourist destination 200 km West of Kathmandu) with an average elevation of 900 metres above seal level. The Kindergarten and the Junior School are at Chhorepatan (Southwest) while the Senior School is at Gharipatan (South East)

About Our School

St. Mary's Higher Secondary School, Pokhara was established in 1983. It is under the management of the sisters of the Congregation of Jesus founded by an English Lady, Mary Ward, in 1609. It is an International Institution especially devoted to the education of youth.
This Institute is open to girls of all communities, irrespective of status, caste, creed and religion. The school imparts not only academic education to girls, but also helps them to form an integrated personality by developing in them a strong character, love of truth, respect, loyalty, a sense of justice adn the necessary energy for honest and hard work.
